This was my first year participating in the Shamrock Shuffle, Chicago's annual 8K that brings tens of thousands of runners and support personnel to downtown Chitown for a fun morning run. The weather was perfect, and although I wasn't quite physically prepared for the event, I finished the race and had a blast.
According to the Shamrock Shuffle post-race press-release: "The 33rd Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K lived up to its billing as the world’s largest timed 8K road race as a record 34,372 runners crossed the finish line in Grant Park, beating the previous record set last year by nearly 2,000 finishers. Comfortable weather conditions greeted participants for the annual kick-off to Chicago’s running season with start time temperatures in the mid 50s that warmed up to the mid 60s for the Post-Race Party at Buckingham Fountain. Leading the way for the record field was men’s champion Abdelaaziz Atmani of Indianapolis, IN, in 23:18, and women's champion Julia Lucas of Eugene, OR, in 25:37, the fastest women’s winning time since Deena Kastor's American record in 2005 and the seventh fastest women’s time in event history."
